Key Concepts Discussed In Alex Tooby’s Interview:
How to grow your community on Instagram. Alex is not only an incredible Instagram expert, but she is also very skilled when it comes to growing an online community. She has specifically chosen Instagram as her main platform to grow her community on, though she has other strategies as well. To grow your own audience on Instagram, you first need to make sure your bio is optimized (see below for more details) and then focus in on what your audience likes and what their needs are.
A great example for figuring out your audience needs is Alex’s brands Men & Coffee (@menandcoffee) and Women & Coffee (@womenandcoffee) on Instagram. Check out her brands for inspiration as well as a detailed inside look on great accounts that are doing very well.
Tips and tricks to a better Instagram bio. Throughout the interview, Alex was kind enough to give quite a few tips on how you can both make your bio better as well as optimize it for marketing and building your brand.
Here are some of the tips mentioned in the interview:
- Have your email included in your description, so that it is easy for people to contact you and get in touch.
- Have the one link that you are permitted within your bio sending your audience to a call to action, make sure to use this link wisely and that it gives value to those who go out of their way to click on it.
- Be sure to note in your description to click on your call to action link.
- Create beautiful and enticing images that resonate well with your target audience that you are trying to reach.

Connecting your social media accounts to optimize your marketing. During the interview, I noted to Alex that she not only grows her community and audience on her Instagram accounts, but she also connects them to her Facebook Group called Instagram Marketing Mastermind. By doing this, she is creating “free” marketing space for herself and cross referencing her social media accounts to grow both these audiences but to also bring each specific value that she knows they need to build their Instagram brands just like she has.
Another example of connecting your social media accounts, a strategy Alex mentions that she does herself, is to connect your accounts that you don’t necessarily focus on but still want to grow in the background. By doing this, you are “covering your bases” and making sure that you can be found on any social media that people may be searching for you on. An example of this that Alex mentions is connecting your Twitter and Instagram accounts so that some (not all) of your posts that are sent to Instagram are also posted on Twitter. Although Alex isn’t necessarily focusing on Twitter, she is allowing people to have access to her and be able to find her in multiple ways as well as building that audience in the background, with minimal work, so that she is able to focus on the platforms that she knows she can get the most out of and bring the most value to.
Take your Instagram from Infamous To Influential. Alex has a brand new course coming out on September 21, 2015 that is called Infamous To Influential and it is geared towards helping its members grow their Instagram brands and following so that they can make money and build their own businesses. This course is for those who are ready to take the next step and go to the next level in building their instagram community.
Key Concepts Discussed In John P. Cordray’s Interview:
Tell your story. During this interview, John talks a lot about how every individual has their own story and they should share that story with the rest of the world. By sharing your background and history with others, especially with customers or clients that you are working with in your business, you are able to resonate better with that audience and they have a better chance of relating to you.
Have confidence in yourself. For the first time in any of the Passion In Business episodes, I personally share part of my “story” with everyone that I have never shared before (listen to the episode to find out what it is). After sharing this with John, he teaches me as well as everyone else that is listening that its ok to go through challenges because they make you stronger. Sometimes we simply need to tell ourselves the words “it’s ok” and to believe in ourselves — even when nobody else does.
How mental health has a lot to do with your business. When you have a lot of stress, anxiety, or even simply low self-confidence it can affect your business… Because you are your business. Seeking out professional help, someone who you can talk with about what is keeping you from reaching your full potential can really push your business forward.
